About Us

Who We Are

Shelby County Players has produced plays since 1988. We are a non-profit agency dedicated to providing live theatre experiences for audiences, actors, directors, producers, and crew members. We are governed by a volunteer board of directors.

SCP produces several plays each season, including dramas, comedies, musicals, farces, melodramas, and children’s plays.

Shelby County Players auditions are always open to the public, and no prior theatre experience is required. All actors, directors, producers, and crew members are volunteers who do this for the love of the art. In addition to acting, many positions are available for backstage work.

Our mission

The mission of Shelby County Players, Inc. is to provide quality live theater experiences to Shelby and surrounding counties. Shelby County Players promotes active participation for actors, directors, and technical crew from within our community.

The services and activities of Shelby County Players are at all times administered on a nondiscriminatory basis without regard to color, national origin, sex, religious preference, creed, age, or physical impairment.

Our vision

It is the vision of Shelby County Players that quality live community theater will flourish in Shelby County for many years, enriching the culture and promoting the quality of life in Shelby County. Shelby County Players, Inc. will be a vessel through which those aspiring to practice the craft of Dramatic Arts will be encouraged and promoted.

By the continued growth of a strong, dedicated base of volunteer participants and involved returning audiences, Shelby County Players, Inc. will promote and strive for high quality educational and enjoyable dramatic arts experiences and opportunities for all of its surrounding communities.

Young people will be encouraged to become involved in live theater, thereby encouraging an enthusiasm for theater at a young age and enriching their lives.
